If Kel/Dom has its own thread, then Kel/Wyldon definitely NEEDS its own thread too.
As far as I'm concerned Kel/Wyldon is total WIN ;D ♥ ;D
Any other Kel/Wyldon fans out there? ... I know of at least one other person, ... or two, ... or three ... ;D
It's not an easy relationship. A lot stands in their way, duty for one thing, ... and well, the little problem of Wyldon's marriage ... but they're not insurmountable obstacles.
Kel and Wyldon's relationship did start off slightly antagonistic, but they've grown so much closer over the years. Their mutual respect for eachother is a clear indication that their relationship is one that will endure.

there are a LOT of issues with a potential Kel/Wyldon romance, which is one of the reasons I have yet to write one. While they're so very perfectly suited to one another, it's a really difficult romance to grow.
1. he's married - while I'm generally cool with infidelity, it doesn't work for Wyldon. There's the line in Squire where Kel says "it would kill him to lie" - if Wyldon is the type who wouldn't want to tell a lie, how would he be able to live one?
2. Owen. This sounds like a very weird issue - but imagine a world where Vivenne dies and Wyldon is free to re-marry or have a fling or whatever. How is Owen going to take it if his father-in-law is seeing Kel?
3. Neal. Can you imagine Kel telling Neal that she's seeing Wyldon?
Now, all this said, I love reading K/W. The easiest to read is the stuff that has an established relationship, without telling how it came to be. But I would love to read fics that deal with Kel becoming Owen's step-mother-in-law or Kel having to tell Neal that she and Wyldon have been hot and heavy. it would be hysterical.
The main reason I like Kel and Wyldon is because they're the same kind of person. They have the same stoicism and refusal to truly show their feelings. While Kel didn't really see Wyldon's sense of humor until LK, Wyldon didn't really see a lot of Kel's true self, either. And at the end of Page when she starts speaking her mind a bit around him, she says she likes the baffled expression in his eyes. Oooh! And I like that Kel thinks he's handsome, and that he has a voice who cuts through her feelings of terror. There's so much romantic potential in all that friend-potential.
(thank you Minuit, for putting me in my happy place)

1. Minuit, you are currently my favorite person. Especially since you added the hearts around Kel/Wyldon !
2. Lisa, you took everything I could ever have to say right out of my mouth.
Exactly! Writing Kel/Wyldon, from the very beginning, would be a very long, difficult journey. Out of any potential relationship in the Tortallverse, this one would be the most intricate and slowest-growing. They both love rules too much, and neither of them would break them... unless, of course, they fall madly and passionately in love. Which we all know will happen.
OMG I would die to read that. Or write it...? Thanks a lot for setting all those plot bunnies after me, jerk.

Muahahahaha! Mission Accomplished. ;D
OMG, could you imagine? Kel and Wyldon are both naturally reserved people - they intentionally inhibit their own emotions and don't reveal what they're feeling. Could you imagine if they were both overwhelmed at all the passion they were feeling?

oooh, more Kel/Wyldon fic!!! Yay!
and thanks Lisa and Journeycat, *basks in the warm & happy feelings*
I can absolutely imagine Kel & Wyldon being completely overwhelmed by their (previously supressed?) passion for eachother ... maybe they were in danger, not knowing if they'd live another day, both needing comfort & another person's touch ... and well ... I'm sure I don't need to spell out what happens next ;D

Oooh, you should write that! Perhaps place them on a mission in some not-too-far-off future.
I have fic-bits lying around here somewhere in which she's wounded and he has to field-dress her (which of course involves removing clothing). It was kind of fun to write...

I agree too!! OMG, could you imagine? Kel and Wyldon are both naturally reserved people - they intentionally inhibit their own emotions and don't reveal what they're feeling. Could you imagine if they were both overwhelmed at all the passion they were feeling? That would be way awesome! Though I'd love to see Kel being insecure at the same time. And then maybe Wyldon reassuring her.

And we all know how Wyldon would "reassure" her...
Tilting, of course.

Wow. that threw my mind into the gutter *instantly*. Thanks, JC. For that, I challenge you to write a fic with "jousting" as a euphamism.

Challenge accepted! Perhaps Kel wants some lessons from Wyldon. In jousting, of course

And the following words must be used: lance, sweat, mount, grind, urge <-- all taken from the tilting scenes in Squire, of course. *innocent whistling* So - back to the Kel/Wyldon love... what do you think is necessary to get our former training master to realize Kel is perfect for him? It took him four years to like her, then another two to see her as a bit more than another student - and then another three to *really* like her and say he's honored to know her (and kiss her forehead - so pretty! I actually had Tammy sign that page at the last book-signing I went to...). How long will it take to potentially change things between them? Will Vivenne fall ill and die during that time, or is she having a secret affair with her son-in-law?

Oh, I was all *squee* and *gape* when I first read that part. It was so lovely, and you also have to think: if it was Neal who did that, would Wyldon have kissed him on his forehead? No. So Wyldon definitely treats her as a woman...if unintentionally.
I can see little comments over time (like Neal rolling his eyes and muttering "Birds of a feather..." whenever they play strategic war-games together) beginning to make Wyldon think, Wow, Mindelan and I are exactly alike. And then they fight battles side by side, and he admires her skill. And maybe it makes him feel young and useful and not a failure as a teacher when she asks him how he does that one move in bed. And then they're staying up late counting supplies and planning maneuvers...
...and then they're staying up late and not counting supplies and planning maneuvers...
You have to measure their relationship by what he calls her. Mindelan >> Keladry >> Kel >> Beloved Wife...?
Really, the sticking point is Vivenne. He's not an adulterer and he loves the daughters she bore him. He's not one to betray those morals. But he changed his stubborn mind about Kel... And we all know his hands were shaking when he kissed her forehead.

Ah, but I love that he doesn't call her Kel. I see him as the type who doesn't use nicknames very often, so Kel will always be Keladry, and she'll like the way it sounds when he says it. I do like the notion of Neal's comments being something that drives Wyldon to see Kel in a different light. Wouldn't that bother Neal if he knew!

I agree; Wyldon's not the type to use Kel in place of Keladry. I've always thought Keladry was prettier anyway. Someday, sometime, a character (probably Neal) is going to think, "Lump + Stump = Love." No, I do see Neal contributing to the catalyst that throws them together. Just little comments here, a couple of jokes there. And I don't think he'd be bothered... I think he'd be horrified! P.S. -- This thread already has more posts than Kel/Dom !

Alanna wouldn't know who to challenge first.
"Wyldon, I'll see your face in the practice court!--no, Raoul, for letting this happen!--no, Neal, because this is all your fault!--no, Kel, because you're stupid!!"

I'd kill to see Alanna, Neal, and Owen's expressions when they realize the Stump and Lump are involved with each other.

Man, you guys have minds permanently in the gutter.
I have a piece kicking around where "something" happened while Vivenne is conveniently away visiting relatives (Wyldon, that was entirely too convenient, sheesh).
And he's like: "dfgnkfgkfhas. Mindelan, I'm an old, married man. Go away and find someone else." (Meanwhile thinking that by all rights, Kel should hate him.) And, of course, Kel doesn't go away. I have no idea where this is going, but I can't see them hopping into bed right away.

Oh, they don't have to go to bed for me to be happy, and I'm sure I'm not speaking only for myself. ;D Sometimes I think the stories that don't allow things to go too far, but show that there's a connection between them, are the prettiest!
That's a lovely scenario, and I like the idea of Wyldon pushing her (and himself) away because he's an old married man!

I love you guys My problem with Kel/Wyldon is that the scene that fascinates me most about their relationship happens when she's about 11. If she'd been older, I'd be on that pairing faster than you can say Dancing Dove

Ahh what scene??
And yeah, I don't need sex to purr for Kel/Wyldon. I love it when they click emotionally as well.
But physical Kel/Wyldon definitely gives me chills. In a good way.

Omg this thread exploded overnight, I don't know who to reply to first ... Wow. that threw my mind into the gutter *instantly*. Thanks, JC. For that, I challenge you to write a fic with "jousting" as a euphamism. And the following words must be used: lance, sweat, mount, grind, urge <-- all taken from the tilting scenes in Squire, of course. *innocent whistling* - I second Lisa ;D I really want to see that fic! ;D Wyldon's the only one who can still beat Raoul at tilting, so it makes sence for Kel to get *tilting tips* from Wyldon ... teehee ... ... Alanna wouldn't know who to challenge first. "Wyldon, I'll see your face in the practice court!--no, Raoul, for letting this happen!--no, Neal, because this is all your fault!--no, Kel, because you're stupid!!" And finally she'd throw up her hands in disgust and walk off, muttering to herself a la Neal. - OMG, rofl, ;D I so need to read that fic too!!! ;D

OMG, yes. For those wondering, Chrissy's favorite Wyldon scene is when they're up on the wall and Kel's terrified, and Wyldon talks her through it.
I love the scene soverymuch just for Wyldon, but I think had she been older I would've seen it as the loveliest shippy scene ever. But I like that their interaction in that scene is repeated throughout their acquaintance.
One of my favorite moments is the second time they tilt on Progress, and she interrupts him when he says "I only wish--" and she assumes he's wishing she were a boy. My brain likes to fill the sentence in with other options. ;D
