Title: Tiny Little Fractures Rating: G Summary: Written for the 31_days challenge. Prompt: #1 - Pink ribbon scars that never forget. Theme: Tris.
In the mornings she likes to watch Briar in his workroom. He moves about with a comfortable familiarity, greeting plants as if they are his closest friends, bare feet shuffling across the floor as he moves pots and labels bottles. He lets her sit on the bench by the door, where she swings her legs and watches the careful, almost loving way that he examines his small army of shakkans, lined up in a row underneath the windowsill. In the honey-coloured light shining through the glass, she glimpses the thorny network of scars on his left palm, shiny and pink against his tanned skin. The living tattoos that twist and bloom on his hands almost hide them, but not quite.
Sometimes she helps him label jars, her neat, fluid handwriting a pleasant contrast to his own careful, rounded letters. They stand at the bench, working in silence, and her eyes can’t help but be drawn to those shiny, pink scars. She looks down at her own pale, pudgy hands and wonders—half curiosity, half dread—what scars does she have, that she can’t see?

This is lovely. I love the interaction between them, and I adore the last line.

This is wonderful. I adore the descriptiveness of this piece, and the last line is just lovely.

I dislike Tris as a character - then again, I have only ever read the Circle books once, and have been known to change my mind upon re-reads - but I really like the way you've portrayed her here. This self-reflection is lovely.
