Okay, so we're looking at doing up a new website: goldenlake.tk It's a bit of a work-in-progress at the moment. We're looking for suggestions of what content to put in the site, amongst other things, and your input would be greatly appreciated.

Something that I was thinking would be nice to have is a complete character, and/or god and goddess list, with brief (ten words or less kind of thing) summary next to each name. I don't know if that's the kind of stuff you're looking for or not, or if it's already been covered, but I thought I'd throw it out there. It could be a group project. I'd be more than happy to help. Everything I can think of is fairly generic. Quotes pages, book recaps, things like that. Does anyone write meta for Tammy's works anymore? It would be fun to have an essay section, but I don't know how that would work. Maybe a reference guide to words and terms used in Emelan and Tortall? Rough descriptions of the various locations? I'll try to come up with better suggestions, but that's all I've got off the top of my head. Also, just as a side note, I think you're amazing for doing all of this! Really. Do you guys ever sleep?

I'm all for a complete cast list, with their appearances cataloged by page number (we could take volunteers and assign each person a book or a part of a book?) It would be really neat if it was searchable, too, but that would require more code than I know.
Also if y'all want hosted webspace just let me know - dreamhost keeps giving me more disk volume and bandwidth and I don't use anywhere near all of it. (it'd be a subdomain.boosette.com address, but the .tk would cloak it and you wouldn't have to deal with anything but DH's TOS which are fairly liberal.)

That would be rather difficult, with the different translations, bindings, and publishers.

I'd be happy to write up content like character lists and such if that's the way you wanted to go.
Since this board hosts a lot of fanfiction (with piercefic and all the other fanfiction drives) how about some tutorials about writing fanfiction in the Pierce Verse?
ETA: Also maybe simple tutorials such as 'How to avoid writing sues'.

I do like all the ideas so far, so keep them coming! I'm all for a complete cast list, with their appearances cataloged by page number (we could take volunteers and assign each person a book or a part of a book?) It would be really neat if it was searchable, too, but that would require more code than I know. (it'd be a subdomain.boosette.com address, but the .tk would cloak it and you wouldn't have to deal with anything but DH's TOS which are fairly liberal.) The character list seems popular, so definitely. As for details, more is better I think, although it would be quite a bit of work and be a bit more complicated for more regular characters. Thanks for the offer too, I think we'll see how we're going with this one for now though. Something that I was thinking would be nice to have is a complete character, and/or god and goddess list, with brief (ten words or less kind of thing) summary next to each name. Do you guys ever sleep?Generic is good, I want an idea of what people would like to see, cos I don't want to put things like book summaries and quotes if nobody else wants to see them Although I do have a list of the books up already, summaries pending. (And yes, we do sleep)

I'm echoing Isha here: Generic is good. One part of the site is dedicated to TP resources - so we need to know what other writers will want to use. A lot of old resources are incomplete or out of date, any many have disappeared - we're hoping to eventually end up with a cohesive group of up-to-date, everything-you-could-need resources, tied in with the Goldenlake board. LOL I blame Isha for this one!!!

I like the idea of writing exercises/tutorials - the specific "how to not write sues", not so much, because I find it's discouraging to young writers (most of whom *do* go through a sue phase - it's mostly inexperience, rather than anything inherently *bad* about suedom.)
Separate list for major and second-string characters, by series? Or maybe, an "Assume Kel is on every page of every PotS book, moving on now" for the citations? (Or we could do citations optional, or book-and-chapter citations rather that page-specific citations.)

I don't mind the idea of a list of references for minor characters - it would make it a lot easier when writing about minor characters, and trying to figure out where they were mentioned in canon. But maybe it should be separate from the actual character list?

I very much like the idea of separating the appearances list from the standard list - I think the easiest thing to do would be to require they be from the US, UK or Oz mass market editions (possibly separate lists, if we can swing enough volunteers?)
How widely available are the books in languages other than English?

Maybe we could just leave out the citations for those that do appear a lot more often, or just list the books rather than pages. EG: Raoul - SotL, First Test, Squire, Lady Knight

I think that's a good idea, or we could be selective about citing appearances - a page-by-page list of citations for Raoul in Squire would be overkill, but a page-specific citation for his appearance in Wild Magic would be appropriate, I think. Likewise for second and third-string characters like Arram Sklaw and Si-Cham page-citations would be useful.

That would be more appropriate. I've just posted a base list of most of the major characters I could think of off the top of my head, maybe I'll do a sample description-type thing for a couple ETA - Posted a sample on the site

Sorry for the double-post, but I'm just giving an update on how things are going. So far, we have pages for:
Bibiliography/Summaries Quotes Character List Tips on writing fic Gods/Goddesses/Religion Military Animals.
Most of the lists have sample entries.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I also want to do one for places in Tortall and Emelan, however I'm a little unsure of if the format used for the other lists would be the most appropriate. I do want to make a proper 'map' of Tortall and Emelan using book scans later too, but we'll see how that goes.
At this point, I'm just starting to work through PotS and am going to be updating these lists every 25-50 pages (I'm jotting in a notepad as I go and then updating the site).

I do want to make a proper 'map' of Tortall and Emelan using book scans later too, but we'll see how that goes. I have a copy of the map that actually has the roof of the world and greater Sarain on it floating around somewhere on my hard drive if you're interested.

But a comprehensive map would be great!

Hmph. I'll have you know I'm sitting in International Trade Law, so I'd be getting excited over lint in the air atm (J/K, but it is boring). Yes, I want to do it all clickable, but that might need a bit more coding than I can do

Wow, I came to this WAY late, but I wanted to let you know that I'm actually working on a comprehensive character list. I think I started with TIQ, and went page by page writing down every name given and whatever tidbits of information I could. I previously did this for the Piercings website, and actually have a lot of the information from that one (it has cross references - Red Nell/Laughing Nell, Squire Henrim/Henrim of Tirrsmont, etc.)
I don't think citation is a good thing unless we all agree on the edition. For example - first printings. Of course, I only have first editions of the books beyond POTS (and two of them are ARCs, so they couldn't be used). As it is there are a BUNCH of editions of SOTL - first edition, Knopf paperback, the second paperback release, small hardcover edition, black paperback, science fiction book club bind-up, mass production bind-up - it's impossible to keep them all straight.
I'm also planning to do one of fiefdoms/cities/locations. If someone's already working on it, let me know and I'll do a portion. Just tell me what to do and I'll do it!

Ooh, well I've just started with PotS, so if you have some stuff to add, that would be great. That is a good point. We could write a disclaimer-type note that citations may be different in different books though rather than deciding on one edition, cos in any case, they will be different for different people. And while the citations probably are not necessary, it would be helpful if we have them. I haven't gotten around to doing cities/etc yet, so nobody is working on it.

This might have already been suggested and I just missed it, but I do not think so.
How about a dictionary of the Yamani words, important objects for refrence (ie the Dominian Jewel, George's ear collection), and perhaps some of the equipment pieces used by the knights?

I think we need some "link to Goldenlake" buttons which - will they link to the website as central hub or the forum?

How about a list of quasi-canon? Perhaps with links?

Well, there's the Words of Tamora Pierce site, and I think they might be doing something about quasi-canon in the fanzine, but it's definitely something to look into.

I would be happy to write up some country profiles. You know history, climate, rulers. Stuff like that.
