I need help.
We have a Drabble Prompts forum (prompts start April 3rd i think). Its basically fortnightly prompts posted by a rotating roster of mods.
We also have a Drabble Competition going live in early April (pretty much as soon as Piercefic08 is wrapped up). There will be a choice of up to 5 prompts and stories are entered under category
I really want one or both of them to have a name past 'Drabble Comp/Prompts'. Something individual and identifiable. Something that links them back to Goldenlake (by association, not necessarily by actual name).
Any ideas?

Something along the lines of "Goldenlake Drabble Tournament"?
Goldenlake makes me think of Raoul, and Raoul makes me think of either the King's Own or jousting tournaments. The Third Company of the King's Own invites you to a Drabble Tournament, hosted by Fief Goldenlake? You could go wild with jousting analogies.

I * * the idea of a Drabble Tournament! ^__^ That's delightfully clever!

I love that! Great work I've updated the Comps and Exchanges forum description to include the Goldenlake Drabble Tournament

Question:
For the sake of the drabble tourney, are we going with a strict or a loose interpretation of the word (EG: to be eligible for a prize your drabble must be 100 words by hand-count; contractions are one word) or a loose definition (anything under ≈500 words is a drabble)?
I prefer a strict definition, with the additional resource of a forum-standard wordcounter (preferably available online), because, well, if it's longer than 100 words it ceases to be a drabble and becomes a flashfic or a ficlet. This isn't a problem for the weekly prompts (in which I am enthusiastic about as many words as are produced) but for the tourney to be lax about the definition feels contrary to the ceremonious height and grandeur of the tournament - we want to make our lords Raoul and Wyldon proud, yes?
Especially if there are prizes involved. Is it really fair for a 138 word story to get a prize in a drabble challenge when it technically isn't a drabble? That'd be like ... jousting with a griffin as your mount. Puts you at an unfair advantage if there're no wordcount restrictions.
Also re: categories: I would not be opposed to categories for double, triple and an exhibition category for drabble pi (314 words in the handpi category, 3,141 words in the whole pi category; okay, so I made that one up because it's fun and random.) .
So, what'd y'all think?

I like the idea of keeping with the strict definition of a drabble too-- or at least a separate categories for true drabbles and ficlets, with the ficlets also having a cap on the wordcount (or at the very least, a suggested wordcount where a writer may be penalized for making it too long). Drabble pi! Cute! Makes my not-so-inner geek smile. That could even be done entirely separate from the tournaments, I think.

I think we're going to take a loose interpretation of the word 'drabble' and set the limit at around 250. Categories in this tournament are going to go by prompt - the exact number of prompts is going to be between 3 and 5, but we are still sorting a lot of stuff out (I'm only just getting over piercefic 08 lol). I suppose there might be room for 1-100 words and 101-250 word categories if we only have 3 prompts... I'll chat to the others.

Hrm. I prefer the strict definition personally - is there any chance that a small number of bonus points might be awarded for hitting 100 or 200 words square on the nose as part of the judging criteria, with the number awarded depending on the points available as a whole? That wouldn't hurt entrants who don't hit it, but would help entrants who do.
