Title: I Love Her, But Mother Would Never Approve Summary: Newlywed Thayet sets about turning things on their heads, while Jon and Court observe. Genre: General and silliness. Rating: G Notes: For Kat and her 'more Jon/Thayet. NOW' campaign. Because I apparently have no life and I like silly things. **** Jon watches her go about her work, the things she's taken upon herself. Opening schools across the realm, establishing the Queen's Riders, basing their structure partially on the combat she saw in Sarain, and helping him establish a university. Some of his nobles dislike the Queen and her ideas and her reforms, but others seem to admire her - or are at least frightened of her. Thayet does what she does, training the fledgling Riders and visiting schools and hospitals all with their son, the young Crown Prince, in a sling on her back. Jon knows better than to object. He had, once before, and she'd looked at him and told him that common women carried their babies with them in the fields. She wanted to raise her children, not leave them for someone else to raise. She would never put Roald in danger; did he honestly think she would? Of course she wouldn't. "Aunt Lianne would never approve," Gary says, thoughtfully, one morning. "Of Thayet, I mean." Jon sighs. Gary is just thinking out loud, as usual, and doesn't mean anything by it - he and Cythera adore Thayet. Alanna, privy to this meeting before a Council meeting, smirks. "I think that's the point, Gary."

Oh wow, this Jon/Thayet campaign worked even better than I expected. Teehee!!! But seriously, soooo sweet. You captured Thayet beautifully in this. And the last line is, of course, awesome

And the last line is, of course, awesome They've been an awesome, awesome couple in the back of my mind for a long time, but they never seem to be popular with fandom and I wasn't sure I could capture Thayet properly. Also, hee. Gary. Alanna wanted to add: "He wanted to marry me", but, no.

Oh boy, I adore this! It is great and captures their personality pretty well. And Kat is right, the last line is to die for!

Veeeery nice. ^__^ I love reading Jon/Thayet ficcage from the period right after their marriage. And there's so very little of it around. I like them during that era, too - before people get comfortable with the 'unusual' behavior.

Fox: Yeah. And the nobles are all: "Augh... why is she doing that? He's the heir!" And Thayet just shrugs. I love this pair - and you're welcome.

Aww, I love this. I agree with everyone else, I think you capture J/T and people's reactions to Thayet very well. I think this is the best characterization of Thayet I've seen in a while. And of course the last line is gold. Great work!

That was awesome You painted Thayet wonderfully in this little piece and I like the fact that it wasn't just a tribute to Thayet, but to Jon as well. Jon might have been a bit of prat, or a ladies' man before, but he's wise and noble enough to fall in love with women (well two, but yeah) who are strong and definite, and just themselves. Too many people don't realise that. His heart is in the right place when it really comes down to it. Loved the last line!

@ Ana: Aww, thank you. You guys are going to give me a big head. @ Verasque: Yes, young Jon was a prat. Spoiled, the 'golden boy' of Court, etc. I think taking the throne so young - and so unexpectedly - shook him out of that, along with the first year of his reign and the famine in result of the Jewel. Grown-up Jon is not (so much of) a prat, so I won't write him as such. And thank you.
