Review - Gracelingby Rojo Title: Graceling Author: Kristin Cashore Rating: four of five stars“The only gift is a portion of thyself.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson) In some ways, Lady Katsa can be considered an extremely lucky member of royalty. Her uncle is King Randa, ruler of their country. She has a high rank in her uncle’s court, and he is the only one who ever tells her what to do. Anything she wants, she can have. Unfortunately, Katsa is Graced. In Katsa’s world, to be Graced is to have a special ability. Some are Graced with the ability to cook, other to run. Others Graced have less useful abilities, such as being able to climb high trees. All who are Graced, in every country, are sent to the palace of their country’s ruler, to serve the ruler. King Randa finds Katsa to be a particularly useful Graceling to have around. Katsa is Graced with killing. Whenever someone disobeys King Randa or something is withheld from him, Katsa is sent to find the offender. Whether the offense is big or little does not matter, Katsa is forced by to law to punish with pain. But even the condemned are given a second chance. When a mystery and stranger also Graced with killing comes to King Randa’s court, Katsa is forced to think. Everything she has ever thought about love, wrong, and right is forced to change as she learns more about her self, and her Grace.

It's good ^^ I found it very Tamora Pierce-esque. The prequel-ish book- Fire- comes out in October 2009, though I'm not as excited about it as I was Graceling.

I quite liked it, but minor adjustment: I don't think "the mysterious stranger" is ever said to be Graced with killing. His Grace is supposed to be strength.
