Malorie's Peak Prompts Spotlight
Formerly the Goldenlake Drabble Prompts, Malorie's Peak Prompts are released fortnightly, and is a great way to get the creative juices flowing. It was changed in July so as to allow all forms of responses, not just drabbles, and we have had over 120 prompt responses for ten prompts to date. Below are a few choice picks from some of the submissions.
Prompt #5, Healing:
Title: Trials

Because: A beautiful study of the different ways to grieve and to heal which makes you fall in love with Roald and Shinko all over again. Heartbreaking yet tender, this piece digs beneath the surface of duty and tradition surrounding the royal couple; a real winner.

Prompt #6, Puzzles:
Title: Her Name
Author: Katty
Rating: G
Because: Opening up so many possibilities in so few words, this piece provides haunting insight into the choices that must be made to save face and the type of woman who is willing to make them. Plus it gives Delia a hell of a backstory (and Jon a hell of an issue).

Prompt #7, Excess:
Title: Tired
Author: wordy
Rating: G
Summary: Our favourite training master does some soul-searching.
Because: Whether you love Wyldon or hate him (does anyone actually hate Wyldon at this point?) it's hard to deny that he's a true hero. Here's a beautiful behind-the-scenes look at the dedication and stubbornness that go into making that hero. Offering a bittersweet commentary on the inevitability of growing older, the piece has Wyldon questioning his legacy in a way that just seems so true.

Prompt #8, Strange Bedfellows:
Title: Freedom
Author: incarnadine
Rating: G
Because: It reads like poetry and gives us a beautiful glimpse of the different meanings Carthak can hold for two strong, passionate women. Rarely does a piece capture so perfectly the heroism and exquisite pain of Kally's exchanging dreams for duty, and this one does so in less than 100 words.

Prompt #9, Two of a Kind:
Title: Stubborn
Author: seekeraftertruth
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Duke Baird’s waiting room was not normally crowded. And even when it was, patients proceeded in orderly fashion, so when he heard shouting, he could not help looking in.
Because: Not only does it bring to light the remarkable similarities between Kel and Lord Wyldon, but it also has Neal giving a perfect display of what it is we love about him. Amazing characterization within 250 words.

Summary: Jon realizes that Buri and Thayet are a package deal, and earning Thayet's love isn't his biggest challenge...
Because: This is one of the sweetest studies of Jon I’ve ever seen, and a wonderful way to capture the closeness of Buri and Thayet.
