Fanfiction Author Spotlight
Fic Author Spotlight on...Andrea Rimsky.
I chose Andrea Rimsky for this issue's Spotlight partly in homage to the Immortals theme. Her Kaddar fics offer an interesting take on a fanon favourite, though she makes me take a second glance at most characters, which is partly why I enjoy fanfiction in the first place.

Title: Empire's Heir.
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Scholarly, familial, and official duties, the possibility that his father was murdered, imprudent friends, dangerous rivals. And trying to survive his uncle while remaining a decent man. Suffering a slave who hates him is hardly what Kaddar needs.
Because: It's a great look at the pressures the Carthaki heir to the throne might face - and those pressures Ozorne's heir might face in particular

Title: Tableware
Rating: PG
Summary: Kaddar gives Kalasin an insight into the Carthaki psyche.
Because: I sometimes feel fanon glosses over the more brittle, awkward parts of Kalasin and Kaddar's relationship - not so here. The final line resonates particularly strongly with me.

Title: Condemned to Repeat
Rating: PG-13
Summary: It all seemed so permanent: progress, equality, family, loyalty. But now Jonathan is dead and the realm in chaos, and there's a traitor to be brought to a painful reckoning. There is no easy answer, no happy ending. The king is dead. Long live the king!
Because: Another fic that removes the gloss from Tortall - there are times when not everything works out for the best, and this is one of them.

Rating: G
Summary: A provincial noblewoman writing to her betrothed reminisces about Sandry. Slightly uncanonical to account for a different perspective
Because: Sometimes, it's nice to take a step back and re-examine the protagonists from a different perspective; this fic allows for exactly that.
