Series: Pepper and Passion Title: Sandman Rating: PG-13 for good-natured threats of violence. Event: Sun, Sand, and Sea Words: 200 Summary: Yuki and her daughter bury Neal on a Queenscove beach.
Sandman
“Why am I doing this?” Yuki’s husband was apparently questioning his life decisions as she and their daughter Mai buried him in bucketfuls of scratchy sand from neck to toe on a Queenscove beach. The blue-green waves of the Emerald Ocean crashing gently against the shore. Fluffy white clouds–pierced by yellow spears of sun–beaming benevolently down on their mischief.
“Because–” Yuki patted a mound of sand around Neal’s arm. Encasing it. “You are a good father.”
“I’m starting to seriously doubt that now.” Neal emitted a long-suffering, self-pitying snort. Rather reminiscent of a beaten horse. “My father never partook in such madness. Allowing himself to be buried up to his neck in sand. I suppose I must now count myself among the ranks of the insane. Love has lamentably driven me crazy.”
“Don’t tempt me to cover your mouth with sand too.” She arched an eyebrow at him.
“You’re lucky my hands are covered.” Neal scowled up at her. “If I could reach my sword–”
“You aren’t even carrying your sword, which is just as well, because if you were I might have to hurt you,” Yuki interrupted. Smoothly. Serenely. Depositing another bucketful of sand on her husband’s sun-warmed back.

Devil you SCARED me with that summary! But then you pulled off such a cute fic. Sorry to scare you with the summary! Especially because I do write a lot of angst and drama. But if it's any consolation, I do like to picture Neal living a long life so I find it hard to imagine writing a story where he is dead. I'm so glad that you thought this fic was cute! It was a joy to write about Neal having fun on a sunny beach with his wife and daughter.
