Title: Earth to earth Rating: PG Word Count: 40 Summary (and any Warnings): Passing of the torch. (Allusion to character death) Notes: OSW series: Rolling Stone
Crane's greenhouse (he would always think of it that way, recalling the long fingers and steady hands that trimmed browning leaves, the lofty reprimands, the pages upon pages of notes) was exactly as Briar remembered it—with one notable absence.

What a lovely glimpse into Dedicate!Briar, as well as Briar’s (presumably!) complicated relationship with Crane.
I love the idea that he still thinks of it as ‘Crane’s greenhouse’ - because it will always be Crane’s legacy when all is said and done. I think the plants will benefit from having someone else around who actually understands and can interact with them, to avoid future shakkan and tomato fiascoes.
And certainly if Briar takes over, he will be a lot more relaxed towards his colleagues. We only see Crane under a great deal of stress at the end of Healing in the Vine, but I can’t imagine him being approachable at the best of times.
I am curious about what Rosethorn (if she’s still alive in this scenario) would have to say!

Love the idea of Briar returning to the greenhouse to take over for Crane, evoked as well in the title. The contrast between Crane and Briar is an interesting one, and as mistrali suggests, seems like they had a somewhat ambivalent teaching relationship, though still with respect.

Ahh, I love the idea of it staying "Crane's greenhouse" in Briar's mind, after everything that connects them both to it.
