Title: Limestone Curses Rating: PG-13 for general spookiness. Word Count: 39 Summary: Roger and the tomb of a long-dead Carthaki emperor.
Limestone Curses
Roger stood at the entrance of a tomb sealed centuries ago--so long ago nobody remembered the name of the emperor buried within this sky-piercing pyramid--and admired the strength of the curses hewn into the limestone to ward off looters.

Using a tomb is a great allusion to what happens to Roger himself.
In the grand old tradition of Conte imperialism, I just bet he would’ve looted those tombs if he’d got past the protection spells, as much for the ability to brag as for the treasure itself.
Nice to explore some other parts of the ‘verse!

mistrali, as always, thank you so much for reading and commenting! I'm so glad that you found using the tomb to be a great allusion to what happens to Roger himself. I could totally picture Roger as wishing he could break through the protection spells in order to do some looting and bragging about his ill-gotten treasure. He is very much that sort of imperialist Conte! Carthak is so fascinating, so I'm so happy my muse was inspired to write something set there.
