Title: Wrestling Leaves Rating: PG-13 for references to sexuality. Word Count: 32 Summary: Raoul and Francis wrestle in crisp autumn leaves. Notes: More Raoul/Francis fic to satisfy my muse’s craving for it. Also known as Part 2 in my Autumn Memories of Francis series.
Wrestling Leaves
As he wrestled with Francis in a pile of crisp, fallen leaves, Raoul felt himself harden with testosterone, adrenaline, excitement, and desire--all that was forbidden and that he couldn’t put into words.

Very nicely done! I like the “forbidden” aspect of it, given most nobles in Tortall aren’t very accepting of same-sex relationships.

mistrali As always, thank you so much for reading and commenting! I'm so glad that you thought this piece was nicely done because I had a good deal of fun writing about Raoul and Francis wrestling in the leaves, haha. It's wonderful to hear that you appreciated the emphasis on the forbidden aspects of Raoul's feelings for Francis because I wanted to showcase that a bit here since I agree with you that Tortallan nobility by and large doesn't seem very accepting or knowledgeable about same-sex relationships, which will make Raoul's attraction to Francis all the more complicated and confusing. It can be difficult enough falling in love with a member of the opposite sex for the first time, but to have that first love be outside of the rigid heteronormative standards of traditional Tortallan society would I believe be even more confusing and complicated. So Raoul's feelings for Francis definitely aren't simple or straightforward given all the messages he is receiving from society about what relationships should be. So I am happy some of that complexity could come through in this single sentence!

I agree, very well done with this piece - it does make me wonder what Francis feels about Raoul. Is this whole series going to be Raoul's point of view or are you going to write from Francis's point of view too?

wordy, thank you so much for reading and for the kind words! I'm so happy to hear that you found this piece well done. How Francis feels about Raoul is a good question. So far, I don't have any ideas for sentences to write from Francis's point of view, but inspiration can definitely hit me like lightning sometimes, and I do not necessarily need a big piece of inspiration (just a small one) to write a sentence. Beyond that, I'm always sort of a "never say never" type of person when it comes to what I'll end up writing about. I guess that means this is my long-winded way of saying that I can't promise a story from Francis's point of view, but it wouldn't surprise me if I came up with one during the course of OSW!

This must have been one of the first TP ships I was introduced too. Brings back memories. I love the powerful autumn imagery here, and it's almost ironic because they're young, but it's very much in the past as well...

Seek, thank you so much for reading and commenting! I'm so glad I could bring back some memories of one of the first TP ships you were introduced to, because there can be few things as nostalgic as first ships, which is fitting in that there can be something very nostalgic about autumn and autumnal imagery as well (at least for me). I really love crisp autumn leaves and how they change and some of my best autumn memories involve leaf piles, so it was a real treat for me to be able to incorporate that imagery into this sentence. And I did sort of want to capture that paradoxical feeling of them being young and full of energy and life but at the same time this taking place in a past that Raoul can only remember so I am happy to hear that quality came through in this fic. Thank you again for reading and for the kind words!
