Title: Guide Me Home Rating: G Word count: 20 Summary: Ace!Sandry finds her first confidant. Notes: This is a nod to the fact that asexual and bisexual people have faced, and still face, similar experiences with erasure and oppression. Title is "Guide Me Home" by Freddie Mercury.
Sandry was surprised (but pleasantly so) when the person she found it easiest to confide in at first was Rosethorn.

I really like the premise of this - I’d never thought about bi v ace discrimination before. Rosethorn and Sandry are such different people on the surface that it’s quite eye-opening to see them relate on this level as well. And of course they’re very similar in that they care very deeply for people, so of course it would hurt them for people to insinuate that any kind of love they felt wasn’t real.

I like that Sandry finds it so easy to confide in Rosethorn. And I do think it is sadly true that in many ways throughout history and to this day, asexual people and bisexual people experience the most erasure and denial of their identities even by some people who advocate for acceptance of other sexualities such as gay and lesbian with some people saying things like bisexual people are really gays/lesbians that haven't fully embraced their identities or people claiming that those who are asexual just haven't met the right person yet who will make them fall in love and want a sexual relationship. Either way it amounts to erasure and a condescending rejection of the individual's ability to identify and define oneself that is downright hurtful and insulting.

Thank-you both for reading and commenting. This is something I've encountered in queer discourse online (and, as Devils indicates, is sadly sometimes used as gate keeping in the queer community itself), so I wanted to acknowledge it here.
Also Rosethorn is so fiercely protective of the people she loves that it pleased me to imagine her counselling and supporting Sandry and gruffly ensuring that Sandry knows she is loved and valid no matter who she is or isn't attracted to.

I'm so happy Sandry has Rosethorn to confide in! It does seem surprising, on the surface, when Sandry and Lark are so close through being teacher/student. But I think Rosethorn would have this no-nonsense, of-course-you're-valid attitude.
