Title: White Lilies Rating: PG Word Count: 40 Summary: Shinko and Roald reconcile after an argument. Notes: Part III of my Shinko series. Written for mistrali’s prompt “Lily.” Thanks to mistrali for the inspiration. White Lilies The morning after their argument–in which neither had lost their tempers or their cold courtesy–Roald presented Shinko with a dozen white lilies the color of a Yamani mourning kimono or a Tortallan flag of surrender, and Shinko forgave him everything.

I love ‘neither had lost their tempers or their cold courtesy’. Subtle gradations of mood and colour/temperature (warmth/pink/spring and cold/blue-white/winter) are very apt for these two. Whereas Alanna and Jon are all about the fireworks when they fight!

mistrali, thank you so much for commenting! It makes me so happy that you loved the line "neither had lost their tempers or their cold courtesy" because in my head canon when Road and Shinko argue, it's not a shouting match or getting rude with each other or anything like we'd get with Alanna and Jon. It's much more controlled and subtle where they get cold with one another and they become very stiff and formal whereas when they are getting along, there's a lot more warmth and affection and softness between them. I think you are right that subtle gradations of mood and color/temperature work really well with this couple rather than overwhelmingly passionate imagery or moods.
