I continue to love your Zahir every time you write him. He feels like a fleshed out character and you do so well at capturing those ordinary-yet-extraordinary moments, like his first glimpse of wheat.

mistrali, thank you so much for commenting! I really enjoy writing Zahir so it makes me so happy that you love him every time I write him. Even in the glimpses of him and his life we get in the books, he seems like he would be a complex person so I really want to do him justice and make him a fleshed-out character when I write him, so it makes me so glad that you feel I succeed with that. I think that these one sentence stories are in many ways a perfect opportunity to explore those simple, ordinary type moments that can actually be extraordinary and profound in their own way, and that is probably part of what I end up enjoying about them so much. These one sentence stories are really so unique in that they give me a chance to explore the little marvelous moments in a life such as Zahir's awe at glimpsing fields of wheat for the first time. From my own experience, the first sight I had of wheat fields stretching into the distance was pretty amazing, so I figured it might have been the same sort of surprise to Zahir when he road north for the first time and saw wheat fields growing seemingly without end. I admit that I normally tend to think of Zahir's first experiences in the north as being all negative and difficult so it was nice to look at a moment where he felt positive awe at something he had never experienced before.
