Ooh, is this an AU where the Jewel doesn’t come to Tortall? I managed to misread this as Alanna marrying Jon and ruling, and was about to comment that any scenario where those two are co-rulers has about 50% odds of failure But actually, I’m far more interested in single!Alanna ruling out of what she perceives as her duty to the throne. I still doubt that she would have done particularly well (she’s more about “stick it with a sword” than politics). But it could go either way - the lesser of two evils (anyone’s better than a Maggur-style despot) or paved with good intentions (more revolt, and more civil war).

Hahaha, possibly! I did loosely have in mind the fic I wrote for...I think Kyp? Or Idleness? Where Roger does in fact manage to kill Jon and Alanna doesn't figure out how he does it, and Jon's friends bide their time and prepare to strike / go for civil war/
50% odds of failure is about right, unless Tortall wants a troubleshooter Queen. Literal troubleshooter. Or would that be trouble-stabber?
I agree! I think she could be basically competent if she tapped on the right people (e.g. the two Naxens.) Fief management is a far cry from kingdom management, but she has at least basic administrative skills, though her temper would be a huge issue and she would need to lean on the Naxens for diplomatic resolutions. Agreed it could go either way, though, and there are many ways it could go wrong!
