Very Machiavellian of him! But not exactly wrong either, I suppose. I really love how sharp and domineering your Jasson is - that strong personality really comes through, but it makes sense in light of how much Jasson expanded Tortall.

Seek, thank you so much for commenting! And, yes, I couldn't resist giving Jasson a bit of a Machiavellian mindset in this piece. I think this is a sort of interesting case where Jasson isn't one hundred percent wrong (at least in the shorter term) but in the longer term it might be nice to have families that feel more love than fear for the Tortallan Crown, and I can also understand why Roald would sort of recoil and reject this policy in his own governance because it is such a harsh, uncompromising one where I think Roald is a bit more inclined to try to be merciful and diplomatic. I was also really hoping that I could show what I envision as Jasson's sharp and domineering personality in these sentences because I definitely sort of envision those qualities of his as being overwhelming and I was so hoping I could get that to come through even in these little pieces.
