Title: Black as Midnight Rating: PG-13 for references to death. Word Count: 25 Summary: Jon wears black robes to his father’s funeral. Notes: Part III of my Jon set. Inspired by mistrali’s prompt “Midnight.” Thanks to mistrali for the inspiration. Black as Midnight Jon felt darkness had overcome his soul as he wore robes black as midnight and buried his father in a white tomb beside his mother.

This is such a good insight into Jon’s state of mind/grief. There’s a sense of numbness here that I like.

mistrali, thank you so much for commenting! Grief can be such a hard and complex emotion to write so I'm flattered that you felt I provided such a good insight into Jon's state of mind and grief in this story. I think there can sometimes be a sense of numbness that comes with powerful grief--almost like a shock kicking in to preserve sanity when loss is too much to process--and that's what I was sort of hoping to convey in this story. That sense of just overwhelming numbness in the face of death and loss.
