With OSW coming up again, I thought it might be cool to have a thread devoted to tips and strategies for writing one sentence stories, so please feel free to share your techniques and ideas in this thread.

Less is more! That’s my main tip.

Good punctuation is very important! Although echoing mistrali's sentiment, I would advise avoiding long run-on sentences or multiple clause sentences.

Yes, I think this challenge is a great opportunity to embrace the concept that less is more and to try to avoid long sentences or exceptionally complex sentences. Which can make it something of an extra challenging challenge for me since I tend to write in longer sentences. So, I like this challenge as a chance to try to be more brief. It also sometimes helps me if I can think of a fairly simple idea that has some punch to it rather than a really elaborate idea because it is hard to winnow down an elaborate idea into a single sentence without getting too complicated or too long. And I think mistrali's prompts can help me come up with those ideas! I work well from prompts. They help spark that first burst of creativity for me.

It's not quite a tip, but I've always found OSW and drabble events as a great way to explore ideas you might want to pick up later on in longer fics with low commitment!

Seek, that's so true! I've definitely had one sentence stories that I've written that have then inspired longer works later. They can be great inspiration and ways of getting toes wet before diving into a longer story in that way.
