Well done! I love how you have Gareth heartbreakingly (mis)interpret his father’s wise advice. Most kids would cry if they were being kidnapped.

I'm happy to hear you thought this piece was well-done since one sentence stories always present a unique opportunity and challenge. One of the most painful aspects of child abuse is that children like Gareth may misinterpret wise advice they got from other adults as requiring them to be silent or not to cry in situations where they shouldn't be silent and should totally be allowed to cry. Like you said, just about any child will cry when being kidnapped, and it's so sad to think of poor Gareth trying to be brave in these circumstances.
