How did you find Goldenlake?

We've asked this question a few times over the years, but I thought it would be fun to bring it back for our 10 year anniversary. How did you find your way to Fief Goldenlake?

My story speaks to the randomness of life and fandom. Before the Spy Guide came out, I was searching for the release date, and Google directed me to a Goldenlake thread about it. I looked around here, thought the place looked cool, and decided to join.

If I'm remembering correctly, I was explicitly looking for fan forums and dumped "Tamora Pierce fan forum" into a search engine. That led me here, I thought it looked like a nice place, and joined. I'm glad I did, this is so much nicer than the first time I joined a specific fan forum.

I'm very glad you both had positive experiences joining Glake We're quieter than we used to be, but we still try to be a friendly and welcoming community!

I found Glake via Twitter. I posted some tweets about Tamora Pierce books and then @fiefgoldenlake started following me. I thought their Twitter feed looked good, so I decided to check out the website. And here I've stayed!

Yes, the forum is a very welcoming place. I appreciate that it doesn't have that vibe of "you're only a real fan if..." that I've seen on some fan sites for other books, movies, and sports. People here don't feel the need to define how somebody else should be a fan. That is very refreshing and pleasant.

I was avoiding doing my research papers by reading all of the Tortall fanfic I could find on FFN, and I noticed that a lot of the best fic mentioned Fief Goldenlake. So I went to Fief Goldenlake and lurked for a bit and after deciding it seemed like a really nice place, I signed up.

I don't actually remember by now, but my earliest posts seem to be in around 2008-ish, and I definitely remember the house I was living in at that time, so. I give it one of two possibilities: could've been something like Idleness's experience where I found GL through fics posted to FFN, or I was Googling Goldenlake for some Raoul information because I was too lazy to climb two flights of stairs to get my books
