So it's getting close to that time of year. What's everyone doing for Christmas and New Year holidays? Anything you're particularly looking forward to? Are you going away or staying home? Christmas is in summer where I am and it's starting to get warmer now so it's getting exciting. Work has been pedal-to-the-metal this year so I'm really, really looking forward to relaxing and doing nothing. My partner and I are staying home this year, and the whole government sector (where I work) pretty much shuts down for 2-3 weeks and as it's a government town, lots of people take the opportunity to go away. So I'm really looking forward to chilling out in the city while there are fewer pesky other people to contend with.

I don't have any big Christmas or New Year's plans, but my older sister is getting married soon after New Year's (on January 4th) so I'm looking forward to that and doing a lot of preparations for the wedding.

Ahh, weddings and holidays sound v exciting! I'm finishing work tomorrow, honestly can't wait! Off to stay with my parents from tomorrow eve, and we've got my cousin coming, plus my siblings and my sister's family intermittently over the holiday period. So, nothing big, but I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm going home for two weeks! I'm very excited since I only get to go back to my hometown around once a year, so I'll get to see all my friends from high school and my family, of course. I'm particularly excited since I'm back in school, so that means I get a longer break than normal. Last year, I had to be back at work on the 2nd, and I resented that so much. I feel like everyone should get at least two weeks off in the winter and two more in the summer, but that's America for you. devilinthedetails, have fun at the wedding! I love weddings, and I'm guessing a winter one will be beautiful!

Thanks so much for the well-wish. The wedding is going to take place at a beautiful New Hampshire inn so I think it should be charming. My sister's fiance always wanted to be married there since he grew up in the area, so this is him being all romantic, ha ha.

OH BOY I didn't know it was New Hampshire in January that's going to be frigid. One of my close friends is from there, and it is beautiful but oh boy I'm cold on summer evenings up there!

Yeah, I pretty much resigned myself to the prospect that it will be freezing cold up there but am keeping my fingers crossed for not a ton of snow since that could be a recipe for disaster with my heels (I hardly ever wear heels since I'm a total klutz, ha ha.) But the rates were much better for winter weddings than any other season, so here we are with a New Hampshire wedding in January upon us...

We’re going to Vanuatu! 🌸 mistrali, that is so funny, my family is also going to Vanuatu for Christmas! I'm only staying a week, but I'm really looking forward to some beach and reading time! I'm also looking forward to the extra week I have off after I get back. Like Idleness, work has been very busy this year (especially these last few months), so I'm really, really looking forward to some down time. I might even do something exciting, like clean my apartment!

Work is quite exciting (!) enough, though, to keep anyone busy! I’m also starting my master’s next year, so. Fun and also life-consuming.

mistrali, good luck with your master's! What will you be getting your master's in? I've finally reached the end of my third semester in my library science master's program, which is probably only financially justifiable because my university job is paying for my tuition at their university program...

I'm deeply envious of mistrali and Kypriotha for going to Vanuatu. I'm counting down to April when I get to spend a week in the Cook Islands, and it can't come fast enough!

To update, the weather was as beautiful and not cold as winter in New England can be, my sister was a gorgeous bride, and I didn't trip in my heels and make a fool of myself as maid of honor, so it's a happy start to 2019 for my family and me!

Thanks, Rosie! It was a wonderful wedding but it's still something of a relief for me to have the couple happily married because the stress of not wanting to accidentally do anything to ruin my sister's special day (such as doing a face-plant when I'm supposed to be walking down the aisle in heels) was starting to eat away at me. If I ever get married, I will be a complete bundle of nerves, or maybe I'll just elope to avoid the anxiety of being the center of attention, ha ha.
