I think TvTropes: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage is a good resource. It makes you aware fo tropes in writing and has some guides on how to go about building characters and plots.
Also WritingExcuses: www.writingexcuses.com/ Podcasts about writing by profession, published authors.
And ModelMayhem: www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/1712253/viewall I use it to look for pictures of people, for various purposes, like visualizing a character. Because you can search for models by nationality, height, weight, skin and hair coloring and age.
