Song and Book Connections

Not just song fics, nor writing playlists...

What are some song and book connections for you? Do they remind you of a particular book/song, or were you reading it while listening?

For me, I was listening to Delta Goodrem’s Wings of the Wild album while working my way through Charles and Caroline Todd’s Bess Crawford series, and so whenever I hear songs from it I’m reminded of the series. Same with Kelly Clarkson’s Thankful and Rosanne Hawke’s Borderland. I have Flame Trees because of Melina Marchetta’s On the Jellicoe Road, and I often think of fic I never wrote when songs from my writing playlist come up...

Does having a song pop into your head while you're reading a book count? I had something like that happen years ago when I read the kids book Pure Dead Magic by Debi Gliori. The family in the book is just strange and slightly spooky enough that I ended up with the theme song to The Addams Family stuck in my head for a good while afterward.

Like Real People Do, Hozier, always makes me think of Blue and Gansey from Maggie Stiefvater's Raven Cycle, and I of the Storm by Of Monsters and Men makes me think of Adam. Also, Caught by Florence and the Machine makes me think of Kirra/Thirteenth House by Sharon Shinn.

I once tried to match every song from My Head Is An Animal by OMAM to a TP character. Kind of wish I hadn't lost that list now!
