She never expected her impression of him to change. The Chamber spared him where his boyhood friends broke against the rocks and that, perhaps, is when she should have reconsidered what this desert man was made of. It would have been easier, a simple adjustment of the rudder on rolling seas instead of this teetering on top of the breakers as he stormed out of the king’s study, nostrils flaring to fuel his fury. The hair on his neck prickled before he turned, dark eyes snapping to meet hers, steady despite the heavy heaving of his chest. In his eyes, she saw his own impressions roll.
Her little boat capsized.
