Title: Faithful
Rating: PG
Word Count: 415
Pairing: Alanna/Jonathan
Round/Fight: 3A
Summary: Alanna’s strange kitten is very demanding, and Jon learns one of the odder characteristics the feline has.
The kitten is tiny and demanding, and whenever Jon runs into Alanna with the scrap of fur on her shoulder he grins. Today, the kitten joins them as they attack a pile of reports with somewhat less enthusiasm than Gary had had when he had dropped the pile on Jon’s desk that morning.
“Faithful wants to sit on your lap,” Alanna mentions off-handedly, referring to the cat as though it were a human being. Faithful looks up at him, bright purple eyes waiting. Jon rolls his own eyes and shifts over, letting Faithful hop up onto his legs.
The cat strides onto Jon’s legs, impertinent tail brushing the pages in Jon’s hands even as his paws wrinkle the sheets unlucky enough to be placed when he desires to walk, and Jon groans and tugs at the papers as the cat crouches on the papers.
“Why doesn’t he want to sit with you?” Jon asks his squire indignantly; juggling the sheets of paper spread across his lap and in his hand to make room for the persistent feline.
Alanna shrugs. “Who knows? He sees me all the time.” She sticks her tongue out at her knight master, sitting upside down with her legs over the back of the couch in their small, shared sitting room.
Faithful turns a careful circle, hunkering down in such a way that he takes up almost the entirety of Jon’s lap.
“How do you do that?” Jon asks him, feeling foolish at addressing the cat directly. “How does such a tiny creature manage to take up so much room?”
The kitten yawns in Jon’s face.
Somehow, he ends up petting the animal absently, and when Jon looks up, Alanna’s grinning at him. She makes a “whsaw” noise and a whipping motion with the hand not holding the paper she’s currently trying to make sense of.
Jon snatches his hand away.
Craning his neck around, Faithful fixes Jon with a dirty look, digging his claws into Jon’s thighs and hooking them in the fabric of his breeches.
“Mithros--!” Jon squirms, trying to unseat the cat. “Alanna, your thing is evil!”
She just laughs.
Struggling to keep his balance, Faithful yowls, “Shut up and stop moving.”
Jon freezes.
Alanna bursts into a fit of giggles at the expression on Jon’s face.
“Thank you.” The cat adds imperiously, and Faithful curls up once again to resume his patient grooming of his tail.
