Title: Black City Paradox III Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 216 Pairing: Alanna/Jonathan Round/Fight: 3A Summary: She never could talk him out of his bad ideas. She never would. Warnings: Character death
AN: Another Paradox prompt, #3; "Alanna and Jon both do and do not go to the Black City"
“On your own head be it!” Alanna hisses in the darkness, and Jon flashes her a smile that oozes charm. He infuriates her, without saying a word.
“What’s the worst that can happen?” he asks her, confidently before turning and disappearing down the stairs.
Alanna wants to fling a host of unfounded accusations at his back, that start with this is what Roger wants! and end with you have no idea what’s out there!
But he’s already gone, and Alanna will yell at him the next time she sees him.
When morning dawns, cool and red over the sand surrounding Persopolis, Jon is nowhere to be found.
Darkness is gone from his stall, and Alanna skids to a halt in the stable when she sees the door still gaping.
There is an eerily straight line of tracks leading straight across the desert, towards the black dot on the horizon, the windless morning leaving them stark against the edges of the oasis-city.
The Nameless Ones have claimed another young one, the Bazhir say when asked, their voices a monotone that betrays nothing, and Alanna wants to scream, to lash out and force some kind of remorse or mourning out of the dark, dark eyes that stare at her.
