Title: Advice
Rating: PG
Word Count: 321
Pairing: Buri/Raoul
Round/Fight: 2B
Summary: In which feet are tapped, Kel is discussed and Buri gives advice.
Buri rests a hip against the doorframe and looks at him. 'So, why did you call me here?'
Raoul rubs a hand over his face tiredly. 'I need your advice.'
Curious now, Buri walks round to him and sits on the desk beside him. 'What with, Goldenlake?'
She's swinging her legs, her heels drumming rhythmically against the wooden side of the 61 desk. He watches them, the quiet taps lulling him in a stupor. Buri waves a hand in front of his face, snapping him out of his daydreams. 'Raoul? Hello-?'
'Hmm? Yes, right. So what do you think?'
'You haven't asked me anything yet!'
'Oh... right. Well, Alanna wants me to take Keladry of Mindelan as my squire.'
'Kel? Tall, dark hair, grumpy pony?'
'That would be her.'
'I think it's a great idea. But...' Buri frowns, heels still tapping.
'What? What is it?' Raoul reaches forward and grabs her knees, stopping her from swinging her legs.
'I was just wondering why Alanna wasn't taking her as her squire.'
'She's not allowed. Some political nonsense Jon and Wyldon managed to cook up. Believe me, she's not happy about it. She's taking Nealan of Queenscove on instead.'
'Oh, right. Well, Kel's good with a sword, lance, she keeps her balance in hand fights...'
'She rides well.'
'Plus, she'll keep you in line. I think you should ask her, Raoul.' She sighs deeply. 'And besides her talents, you're probably one the a few knights who'd pick her. She's a girl, and old men are stupidly stubborn sometimes. They won't choose her if there's a boy on offer. And she deserves better than to be the last picked.'
'Gary would take her, if I didn't.'
'Yes, but lovely as he is, I doubt Kel would enjoy being squire to a desk knight.'
He laughs. 'I guess not.' Raoul stands up, and stretches. 'Alright, I'm off. I have to go find her before Gary does!'
