"Are you sure this is it?"
Rosto eyed the gem greedily. "Big, purple, sparkly. Looks like."
"Hurry up then, you looby." Beka looked at him pointedly.
He picked up the jewel and pocketed it. "Let's go afore someone sees us."
"A bit late for that." A tall man appeared, wearing a smirk on his face. "The dominion jewel is mine. Now hand it back."
"Tis ours now." Rosto said defiantly.
Roger smiled. "It's mine. They match my tights, you see?" He gestured at his sequin-covered legs, which were the same shade of purple. "Now hand it over."
"Ye'd best be doing as his Grace says. Ye got two strikes against ye already." Another voice came from behind them, while Roger swayed his wizard's rod from side to side.
Beka shook her head as Rosto stretched his hand out. "No." She fumbled with the Jewel, trying to see if she could use it.
Roger kept waving his wizards rod at them, and the world faded slowly. "Give the jewel to me."
Rosto knelt next to her as she offered the Duke of Conte their prize. Roger snatched it, stroking the jewel as it warmed to his touch.
"A few more ears for your collection, my dear."
"I count three strikes, yer Grace. One ear for me, and then I finish them off."
Roger frowned slightly. "A bit of a waste, but I suppose all's fair in love and war." He waved at the pair kneeling before him. "George is going to punish you now." He looked at George. "Just keep it tidy, my precious doesn't like blood." Roger kissed the jewel and left George to collect his ears.
