Title: Looking
Rating: G
Word Count: 316
Pairing: Rebekah Cooper/Rosto the Piper
Round/Fight: 1C
Summary: Beka keeps a lookout for Rosto
***
Beka stood at her window, feeding the pigeons that gathered there. As usual, Slapper pushed to the front of the group and she only just pulled her hand back in time to miss getting pecked.
"Stop it, you looby," she scolded him. But her heart wasn't really in it. She was too busy scanning the alleys behind the lodging house for a certain blond haired figure. He hadn't been at breakfast and Anniki had been very evasive about where he was. Not that she was worried, of course. He had proven he could take care of himself. But it had been an unusually rowdy night for the time of year.
She scattered another handful of corn, telling herself that the pigeons needed it. It had been a lean winter and they were looking a bit scrawny. Resting her elbows on the sill, she watched the pigeons peck up the last remnants, until she could no longer justify keeping the window open. Sighing, she shooed the last few away, ducked Slapper's wing and closed the shutters.
"Guess it's time to start the day," she said to Pounce as she turned around. And stopped dead, as she saw Rosto leaning in her open doorway.
He smirked at her. "Looking for something?"
"No," Beka snapped. She picked up her washing basket and packets of dust and pushed past him to the landing. Before she could close the door, he leant down and kissed her cheek.
"No harm in looking," he whispered in her ear. "But don't worry, I won't tell anyone. Wouldn't want anyone to think one of Corus' toughest Dogs was worried about a Rat."
Beka's cheeks flared red. Keeping her head down, so he couldn't see them, she closed her door with an unnecessarily loud bang and flounced down the stairs. She didn't look back as she resisted raising a hand to touch the cheek he'd kissed.
