Title: Armed Robbery Rating: PG Word Count: 211 Pairing: Alanna/Jon Round/Fight: 1/A Summary: I have not committed robbery with violence. Genlith blocks a supply depot. Jon is not happy.
It's kind of hard to supply an army. It's doubly hard to do so when some noble decides he's too big for his britches and decides to block off one's supply depots.
Well, technically, they are Genlith's. But the army needs them, and the army will take them. Genlith reneged on his deal with the Crown; Genlith can pay the price.
The Genliths have been unhappy with Jon for a while, now. Alanna isn't actually sure how it all started - probably with her, as most of Jon's problems seem to. Not a single change Jon made met with Genlith approval; Alanna thinks change itself is anathema to them.
The Chamber shattering Vinson into confessing was only the icing on the cake, but Jon's insistence on enforcing the jurisdiction of the Goddess Temples is what really turned them against him.
Alanna sighs and stares into the mirrored part of her blade. The soldiers she's commanding shift uneasily, staring at her and at the Genlith men-at-arms with equal nervousness. It goes against every part of them - of her - to consider attacking Tortallans.
She's done it before. She'll do it again.
"What do you want me to do, Jon?"
Jon's eyes, when he gives the order, are hard. "Take back that depot."

So, the first time I read this, I totally missed something, because I just realized.
Alanna is IN FRONT OF the opponent while she's talking with Jon. WHO IS IN HER SCRYING MIRROR.
Idk, it just added another level to the fic. Like, the intensity went up for me, and I love it even more.

I adore the whole magic talk. And I love that she does what has to be done, for him.

I agree with Muse and Isha: the idea of Alanna and Jon communicating by scrying as she faces off against the Genlith men-at-arms is rather intense and interesting.
And I love that Jon and Alanna both steel themselves to do what they have to do.
