Title: This is Now Rating: PG Word Count: 140 Pairing: Alanna/Jonathan Round/Fight: 1A Summary: Time passes and we change with it, a little bit at a time. Inspired by lyrics from “Part of Me” by Katy Perry because apparently Katy is my Jon!tunes of choice.
(quotes from LR not included in word count)
The sound of his words rings in her ears.
My offer of marriage stands, if you want.
There’s a space between them, and a silence in the air. They breathe in, and it becomes a part of them.
Alanna wonders if these words are a part of her now, too.
Maybe, and she knows that she can catch them, keep them, own them with just one word.
Can’t she?
Her heart beats, keeping time for her as her thoughts whirl. Alanna looks away from Jon’s eyes, because there are things there that—
She shies away from them, and she knows her answer even as half of her heart protests briefly.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, Jon, but we’re very different people these days.
And suddenly she looks into his eyes, just for one moment, just to see.
You turned into a hero when I wasn’t watching.
She smiles, a little one. When he returns it, she knows.
She does love him. And he loves her.
And they will be okay.

You have such a way with words, effortless. It doesn't take many words - if used efficiently - to make this very poignant.

*dies* Seriously, this is so beautiful and sweet and hopeful, I just can't. I wish this was actually in SotL. No,this is canon now. I have decided.
It is so hard to pick out my favorite part in all of your fics, because you choose your sentences and words so carefully that ALL of them are beautiful! But this especially stood out to me: There’s a space between them, and a silence in the air. They breathe in, and it becomes a part of them.
Alanna wonders if these words are a part of her now, too.

I really love this. I'd like to imagine this is sometime before Jon marries Thayet, or even after. They've reconciled but they know they don't have to be together. And I'm seconding all the comments about your diction here!
