Title: Steps Into Treason Rating: PG Team: SotL/TI Prompt: the thin line Word Count: 113 Summary: Roger's not stupid.
He dances around it for years. In Carthak—careful, overseas, watchful for agents from either country, everything plausible and deniable, “it’s for my studies.”
Roger doesn’t move fast. He doesn’t move slow, either; Jonathan is only young for so long and it takes time for pieces to fall into place, for the chessboard to align. One bad move could tumble the whole thing, and he is—no, he knows he’s smarter than that.
When Jonathan is a page, it is time. For his studies—hah, maybe once, but a disease can be sent overseas by way of a spell. He’d learned that here, hadn’t he.
Steps into treason, and it feels so good.

Ah, that last line is just amazing! Almost gives me goosebumps. I love how calculating and smart Roger is in this, it's a nice change from his usual fabulous self that we usually see in fandom.

I love that Roger isn't trying to soften the blow of what he's doing. It's treason, it's murder, and he's doing it without excuses.
