Title: Alone in a crowd Rating: PG Team: SOTL/TI Prompt: In this valley of dying stars Word Count: 171 Summary (and any Warnings): When you're the only one left you still have to carry on (Character Death) Notes: I apologise if this is a little depressing but it felt like it fitted the prompt.
Even though he was surrounded by endless chatter around the table of the King's Council Raoul felt alone. He felt that he had spent too long, that he no longer belonged here either at this council, or in this world.
The happy years with Buri by his side had been ended by an arrow, the flight of the bolt to quick, as they all became too slow.
It was no longer Gary with the piles of paperwork in front of him but younger faces with ink splashed on younger hands.
Alanna was still here, yet not with him, nursing new injuries and old pain, as they all became too slow.
And it was no longer Jon's eyes he looked into at the head of the table but the same eyes in a younger face. And the hand the King gripped was no longer Thayet's but a younger hand.
Alone he may be, but here he would remain helping new lights shine through Tortall, while he waited for his to fade.

Loved this. How sad, and yet the strength in Raoul's character is still evident.
