Series: Of Freedom Title: Another Breeze Rating: G Event: 110 Reverse Hurdles Words: 110 Summary: Someday, they will look back on this moment. Author’s Notes: Titles (for series and fics) taken from Maya Angelou’s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. Another Breeze “I’m ready,” she says. She looks him straight in the eyes and he is reminded that she is a Conté, and Contés do not break, only bend. Lerant brushes a tearstain from her porcelain skin. “If you’re sure,” he says, and pulls himself up. “Let’s go.” She smoothes her skirts before taking his hand with a tentative smile. She stands, shaking only slightly, and settles her shoulders. Lianne breathes deeply in, the scent of wet earth mingling with traces of her own perfume. “I’ll take care of you,” he says. “Just trust me. Everything will be okay. We have each other, don’t we?” Shadows of doubt fall over her face.

Fabulous! I don't know where they are going or what they are about to do, but it really doesn't matter because the moment is so pretty. It's funny, because if you read it top to bottom, it is almost a different story than reading it bottom to top (ie, either culminating in the alleviation of Lianne's doubt or the inception of it). I'm personally partial to the bottom to top version (although I guess that is sort of the point).

Ah, I'm so glad this is the first reverse-hurdle I've read, because it's absolutely lovely and perfect. You've packed quite a tiny punch, either way it's read.
