Summary: Surprising things rarely surprise Irnai. But when she stumbles into a fairy circle, she is shocked out of her wits!
Irnai paced around. Gydo had taken her into the woods to show her something. He was behind a bush, checking if it was still there. “I don’t understand why you insist on showing me,” Irnai commented.
“Because you’re the only one I trust to keep it a secret.” Six years had passed and she and Gydo had become close friends.
“This better not be something scary,” she warned, frowning.
“It’s here!” Gydo called. “Come over.”
Irnai tried to walk towards him, but couldn’t. “What in…?” She reached out and pain flared in her hand. She tried ramming forward and earned a headache. She was trapped!
She called Gydo and said she was stuck. “How?” he called back.
“How am I supposed to know?” she said irritably. “Just go get help.”
He rushed to her aid and halted sharply. “You’re in a fairy ring.”
“A fairy ring?”
Gydo nodded. “A fairy ring. Look, there are mushrooms all around you.”
“D’you know how I can get out?”
“No, I’m sorry. I’ll get Loey.” He ran off to fetch the mage.
“What a silly little creature you are.” That was a new squeaky.
Irnai looked around, alarmed. “Hello?”
“I was hoping for someone more interesting.”
“Who’re you?”
A fairy flew up to her face. She couldn’t’ve been more than four inches tall but spoke haughtily. “I’m Restoia, fairy princess. You?”
“Why have you trapped me?”
“I trapped you?” The fairy flew around her head, offended. “You are the one who walked into our holy ring.”
“Well, can you please let me out?” she begged.
Restoia smirked. “Too bad. I don’t have the power or authority to do that.”
Irnai frowned. “What can you do?”
“I can make you pass out,” she taunted, magical dust falling from her wings. “I can give you wings or warts.”
The seer grabbed the fairy by the legs and hung her upside down. “Why, you!” She couldn’t continue because Restoia had thrown powder in her nose. She sneezed, dizzy. “What was that?”
“I told you I could make you pass out,” she sneered. She fainted.
Irnai awoke in bed to a smiling Gydo. “You’re okay!”
“Who said I wasn’t?” She hugged him fiercely and pulled back. “We’re going back, right?”
He cocked a brow. “Even After what happened?”
“I’ve a bone to pick with that fairy.” She offered a hand. “Deal?”
They did their secret hand shake. “Deal.”
