Title: Rolling Stone Rating: G Summary: Evvy can't help being contrary sometimes, it's in her nature.
Briar may have handed me over to Rosethorn and Discipline but that didn't mean I had to stay there. No one had even tried to stop me leaving temple grounds, despite how nervous I must have looked; I'd been fearfully worried that they'd call me a thief and drag me away somewhere, all because I made sure to keep my sling covered.
"I left a note," I told Briar in my defense. His eyebrows had raised right up to his hair when he'd walked in and seen me.
I sat down and unwrapped Luvo on the kitchen table, ignoring Briar's frustrated noises. "He just likes being grumpy," I whispered to Luvo.
"I do not," said Briar.
Luvo kept quiet and I thought it best to do the same. He was laughing in that silent, not-laughing way of his, I could tell. Hiding my face in my sleeve, I pressed my forehead against him and grinned.
"Just don't expect me to defend you if Rosethorn comes round," Briar warned, then disappeared back to whatever it was he was doing.
"Rosethorn does not react well when you displease her," said Luvo.
"It'll be worth it. Besides, she's never actually hung anyone in the well before."
He didn't have to say it out loud, but I guess that he was thinking it anyway. There's a first time for everything.

Really lovely interactions. Especially Evvy with Luvo.

Thanks max. I'm trying to like Evvy a little better, and I think her relationship with Luvo is a good way to start with that. Plus it's fun writing them together!

Haha, this is great. I love how you've shown Evvy's contrary nature, Briar's reaction and her doubts about Rosethorn's threats.
