Title: Five People Rosethorn Meets in the Afterlife 1: A Knight in Shining Armour
Rating : G
Word Count: 365
Crossover: Emelan/Merlin
Summary (and any Warnings): Rosethorn meets five men before her boy comes to fetch her. Don't these freaks know she has more important things to do than deal with their issues?
Notes: This happened because there is no way for me to make this kind of cross-over plausible if I don't go into the afterlife, first. Katty wanted a Merlin X-Over...
When Lancelot was through the light, there was a surprising lack of, well, death at the end of it. He turned around to express this sentiment to Merlin and Arthur and stared. The stone hall where he had made his decision, self-sacrifice for his friends and his promise to Gwen, was gone. Replacing it was a long, empty, mist-filled road.
He supposed Merlin could have saved him, magicked him somewhere, but in his heart he knew he knew there was no point in denying the truth. The world surrounding him was not Albian, after all. The mist lay low to the ground and heavy, unmoving. The buildings surrounding him had a uniformity and emptiness to them that was not of the world he knew.
Considering what he should do next, he was stalled by a shape emerging from the shadows. He drew his sword and stood ready.
She had her red hair cut short, and was dressed in a long green robe, her feet inexplicably bare on the cobbles. She regarded the weapon scathingly, one fine eyebrow raised.
"You're going to find it more difficult than you think, to stab me
He lowered the blade quickly, blushing and bowed. "I apologize, my lady, I didn't... I mean..." Lancelot stopped trying to speak and looked around at the silence that surrounded them. "I've had a startling evening."
She barked a laugh. "I suppose so." She propped her hands on her hips, regarding him with dark, knowing eyes. "Are you just going to stand there all day, then? Being startled?"
"I just... I lived for my King, my code, my friends... Now I've died to give the woman I love the man she deserves, to protect my friend and my King... I don't know who I am now."
"What's your name?"
"Lancelot."
"Then, my lad," the woman said, her dark gaze softening, "you get to be just Lancelot for a while." She looked off into the distance. "It's something to look forward to, isn't it?" she asked as she walked away.
Lancelot took a deep breath, feeling the weight of responsibility and guilt and duty fall away. Closing his eyes, he walked into the mist.
