Title: Not Happy Rating: G Word Count: 203 Wishlist Item: 2. Kel and Kookaburras. (i.e. what if Tortall had kookaburras. Possibly instead of sparrows.) Summary: Kookaburras ≠ Sparrows
Kel ran her hand up the side of her neck and into her hair. The bird squawked again and she clenched her fingers. Her roots pulled taught but she ignored the pressure, fighting her annoyance instead. She prepared for another burst from those wretched birds, which sound like babies laughing and coughing simultaneously.
Why would Owen ever want to keep such awful animals as pets? It certainly wasn’t like Kel to hate animals (Jump was the best companion a page could ever hope for) but these kookaburras were total pests. She peered out the window and saw Owen standing below, the birds perched all over his extended arms. She watched him flail his arms as he laughed at the birds flapping to stay glued to him. (Really, it would be a surprise if those birds lived out half their years unscathed.)
“Kel!” he yelled when he finally noticed her, “Come and play with Frances, Sabrina, Josianne and Daniel!” She shook her head, shouting “Lots of homework!” and retreated into the room. She slammed the window shut, grimacing as the birds chirped. As much as Kel liked Owen, she didn’t know how much longer she could last before reporting the pets to Lord Wyldon.

Thanks so much! I just love this, the idea of Owen bonding with kookaburras while they drive Kel up the wall! Sort of nice to see there are some animals Kel can't get along with!
