Wishlist Item: 3. Keth/Yali
Summary: To Yali, there is more to lovely people than looks.
-
Yali was familiar with attractive people. It was as much her duty to be lovely as it was to be talented; they proved to earn small rewards. Keth wasn’t either of those things. He was, for all his bulk, a very fragile man. Something of a feather to be tossed about and rise again, but it would take only one good stomp to stick him to the ground for good. She hoped it never happened.
Keth was inherently good, the way most people tried to lie to themselves. He wasn’t foolish or thoughtless, he didn’t sacrifice more than he could afford, but Keth knew down to a precise mark what he needed and what he could give away to help her with Glaki. And he did. Be it time, food, or a simple kind thought – words were so preciously difficult for him, though his mind stayed bright behind those blue eyes of him – Yali knew her day would be better after a glimpse of him.
Yali felt guilty that her heart was not so giving. She shared when she was comfortable, but during the difficult times, her good will was tight. Still, she would not let Keth go unappreciated. As he dragged himself in the door, exhausted and dead on his feet, Yali propped Glaki on her hip and gave him a shoulder to help him up the stairs. His face was and broody, but still, as he always managed, Keth paused at his door and gave her a grateful smile and a deliberate thanks before he went inside.
