ALANNA/ROGER v RAOUL/SABINE
Raoul and Sabine walk down the lane, strolling in the quiet dusk, when they suddenly hear a large roar behind them. Turning, they see a large circle in the air, swirling as lightning strikes from the centre. Sabine’s jaw drops as Raoul lets out a low whistle. He has seen this before…but where, he cannot recall.
The knight looks at Sabine as she lets out a yelp. Seeing Roger’s wizard rod poking her back, he remembers everything. He moves to draw his sword but stops as he finds the tip of Alanna’s sword at his neck. “Don’t move,” she warns.
Roger roughly shoves Sabine closer to the Gate, and Raoul knows it’s only Alanna’s sword that keeps her from throwing the Duke into the Gate. With a sly glint in his eye, Raoul calls out, “Alanna would have chosen Jon, given the chance.”
Roger grabbed Sabine and growled murderously. Sabine kneed him in the groin, making him cry out in pain as he released her. Alanna wavered, unsure of if she should defend her love. Raoul took advantage of her hesitation, sweeping her feet from under her as he drew his sword.
Before Alanna could recover, Roger was at her side, helping her up. He pulled her away from Raoul and Sabine, moving towards the gate. “Alanna is mine!” he cried. “She’ll never be Jon’s!” Roger shoved Alanna into the Gate before she could react, and with a swirl of his cape, the Duke followed her.
The Gate closed as Roger strode into it, and Raoul and Sabine both knew that Alanna and Roger would be no more. “So much for epic,” Raoul muttered as he examined the ashes that the Gate had left behind.
