Title: Babies
Rating: PG
Word Count: 427 words
Pairing: Dom/Evin - Team Underpants
Round/Fight: 1A
Summary: Kel wonders if Dom regrets that he can’t marry, after Neal’s baby is born.
Sitting on the grass, Dom leaned back on his elbows as he watched his cousin fret over the way people were holding his new daughter. The ladies all stood together chatting, while the baby was finally passed around the men. Yuki’s eyes kept darting to the pink bundle, but she seemed unwilling to have two doting parents harassing the visitors.
“Any regrets?” Kel asked, sitting next to him.
“Not anymore.” Noticing her quizzical glance, Dom continued. “Well, now that you’re here, there’s more than just me with no prospective family. Mother won’t dare make a scene whilst you’re around.”
“Um, that’s good? But not what I meant.”
“I know what you meant. And my answer is still no. I like where I’m at with the Own.”
Face devoid of any emotion, she simply replied, “Oh.” He tried to recapture her gaze, but she was suddenly too focused on Neal criticising Owen.
“Kel,” he took her hand. “It’s just…” He didn’t want to lose her. He had been so careful to keep this quiet, although his secret had not been hard to keep, courtesy of his "ladies’ man" reputation. He still had no idea how that happened. How could he best explain?
“It’s just… I don’t swing that way?” Perfect.
Hazel eyes snapped back to meet his own. He held his breath for a seemingly impossible amount of time, waiting for her to respond. “Huh.”
“Huh? That’s what I get?” Didn’t she know how hard that had been?
“It explains more than it doesn’t,” she responded quietly. Her eyes wandered back to the new life being celebrated.
Dom chuckled, releasing her hand. “Meathead said you would be okay with this.”
He was rewarded with a small smile as Kel shrugged. “I find the Eastern opinion on such things a bit unreasonable, actually. You can’t help who you become attracted to.” Still avoiding his gaze, she asked, “So who’s the lucky man?”
“Do you remember Evin Larse? He was -”
“Group Commander. With the Riders. I remember.” She fell quiet as she continued to watch Neal instruct Owen on how to hold the baby’s head. Why wouldn’t she look at him?
Confused, Dom nudged her. “Well, it is a shame Evin and I can’t have that,” he said, motioning towards the baby.
Kel’s eyebrow rose slightly, but she didn’t respond.
“See, the two of us… we’d produce beautiful babies.”
Finally turning her attention back to him, Dom felt the knot in his stomach loosen when her eyes finally met his. “Uh, Dom? I don’t think it works like that…”
