Title: Driven to Distraction
Rating: PG
Word Count: 298
Pairing: Dom/Evin
Round/Fight: 2/A
Summary: Evin gets a little distracted.
A/N: Dedicated to Seek and Ren, who distracted me with all their wonderful CM fic and made me burn my dinner!
Evin sat idly stirring the porridge. Once they were all packed up, and had eaten, he and the Riders would be back on the road and heading east. By evening they should have caught up with the Third Company of the King’s Own. And that meant seeing Dom.
It had been many months since they had last been together, and Evin was missing his lover desperately. The weather was cool enough that no one would question Evin pitching a tent, rather than just taking his bedroll out under the stars. Just to be safe though, and to avoid suspicion, Evin had set up his tent the last few nights.
Tonight he would set up his tent at the edge of the camp and once everyone was asleep Dom would sneak it. Evin grinned, he couldn’t wait to get Dom alone and-
“Is something burning?”
Buri’s voice snapped Evin out of his reverie. He leaped up and dragged the pot of porridge off the fire, but it was too late. Utterly miserable, he gazed at the blackened lumpy gloop that was supposed to be their breakfast.
“What’s gotten into you today, Evin? Are you sick?” Buri pressed the back of her hand to his forehead. “You do feel a little clammy.”
“I’m fine, Commander,” Evin said with a sigh. “I just got... distracted.”
Buri scowled at him. “Maybe you should go lie down, that’s the second pot you’ve burnt this morning. We’ll hold off leaving until after lunch.”
“But won’t the Own be expecting us?”
“We’ll catch them tomorrow. Don’t worry about it, Evin, you go get some rest.”
Dejected, Evin pulled out his bedroll, and lay down. There was no way he was going to be able to rest now, but at least he’d stop burning the food.
