Title: Payment Rating: PG Prompt: Villain Category: 100-word Word Count: 100 Summary: A healer names her price.
Note: This drabble takes place at the end of Bloodhound, although it's not really spoil-y, since it doesn't give away anything beyond what's on the book jacket. But you might not know what's going on if you haven't read the book.
“Don’t let them die.”
The coins were warm and smooth between my fingers, unmarked: gold.
I counted. It was as much as I’d earn in a year of setting bones, birthing babes, curing sniffles and stomachaches. One year of my Gift, my strength, my life I’d never get back – just for gold.
I sorted the coins into two piles and handed the smaller one back. Eight months is less than the time a mot is with child. “I’ll heal those two – they’re good Dogs. Gold or no, I’ll not spend my strength on a villain whose trial ends in hanging.”

Ohh, this is the healer who healed Beka and Goodwin (and Pearl?) at the end of Bloodhound, right? Good work

Thank you for the comments! Kat: This healer healed Beka and Goodwin, but NOT Pearl. (Is this a spoiler? Should I warn up top that comments include spoilers?)

You've caught the "old Tortall" voice quite nicely. I love PD slang!
