He sees the ghosts that die behind her eyes; multitudinous murders that plague her memory
hands that drip blood, Dedicates that fall, screaming, Initiates die by the numbers-
She shies away from them, and he sees her withdrawing
a ghost in a silent shell that carries Gyongxe inside her forever and waits to die; inside her the moment of death continues, frozen, time will never progress
And this is why she fears to open their bond, he knows, because she doesn’t want him to ever glimpse the horrors in her mind
that scorch her soul in raw flames of terror, that has her gasping in tearful nights, flinching at the red-orange-blood gauze of sunlit clouds at sunset
She wants to protect him, to protect them all, he knows, but the burden she bears will forever ruin her. She is quiescent now, no fire, no love of life. The girl has died in Gyongxe, and he does not recognise the ghost that echoes through the quiet house, among the debris of a life they once knew
and once fit into but no longer, especially when the tremors take her; she shakes unstoppably, crying, but she hides it from them or at least she tries-
She wades forever among sloughs of blood and slaked flesh, in the ruin of all she knew and loved at the end of all things. Briar sees the ghosts that die behind her eyes and wishes he bore them, instead. Sandry was not made for such horror.
