Title: P is for Phantasm Rating: PG13 Word Count: 166 Pairing: Jon/Zahir – Team Bend-a-lot Round/Fight: 1A Summary: (n) illusion; supposed vision of absent person. Warnings: Character death.
He can feel himself slipping away.
Time doesn’t stop. Nothing does. The fighting continues on around him, mud getting spattered on him where he’s fallen, the jarring sound of screams in the air; suddenly, he realises how insignificant he really is to all of these people, to this war.
He may be in shock, it’s hard to tell, but he certainly doesn’t feel numb. The place where the axe got him, slipped in perfectly between the plates of his armour, hurts like nothing he’s ever felt before. He groans. No one hears him, no one cares, so he groans again, letting the pain eat him up.
In his final moments, he thinks someone kneels beside him. His thoughts flicker, momentarily, to Jonathan. It almost makes him want to laugh, because the idea is so ridiculous; his former knight master is leagues away. Safe.
But he can’t laugh, not anymore; he can taste blood, heavy in his throat. Instead, he smiles, and shuts his eyes, and waits.

This is so vivid and descriptive, it's really lovely.

I like how you had me thinking Jon was there with him, but then just made it his last thoughts. It was poignant and unexpected.
