Title: Sulfur Rating: G Word Count: 118 Pairing: Jon/Zahir – Team Bend-a-lot Round/Fight: 1A Summary: Sulfur is distinctly yellow, but not very shiny. King of dirty looking
:::
When selecting a squire, King Jonathan strayed from tradition in several ways. He did not go for one of the brighter, more luminescent boys, but rather wanted a squire that could stand out only after polishing. Potential is vital for a knight, but ineptitude? That can be cured.
At first glance Zahir was perfect; he was scorned by many, but known by few. Though on deeper inspection Jonathan realized that he was perhaps a bit too violent.
Though after some analysis, Jonathan decided that risks were necessary in situations other than politics. The king was still unsure up until the moment that he asked, but when Zahir replied with that stammering yes, Jonathan knew he had chosen correctly.

Oooh, I like this How Jon picked Zahir not for his current ability but for his potential after Jon works on him. And were the alchemical references intentional?
