Title: Carbon (Elements) Rating: G Word Count: 179 Pairing: Jon/Zahir – Team Bend-a-lot Round/Fight: 1A Summary: Carbon’s two main allotropes are graphite (soft) and diamond.
:::
When King Jonathan sits in court for the trying of criminals, his face is composed of planes of ice. He is unreachable, unyielding, undeniably cold. It is not his status as king that instills fear in the prisoners, but his attitude. His obvious disgust.
Zahir sees it in their eyes: they had planned to throw themselves upon the floor at the king’s feet, to beg for mercy. But when they see his eyes, they freeze, as if the king has shot them full of ice. He will never pardon them. He will watch them burn. A part of Zahir, his logic, understands that this controlled anger has nothing to do with him. He has no reason to be afraid, yet he cannot help but shiver.
Later, when Zahir and Jonathan are alone there is no wisp of the king’s previous chill. He is all warmth and smiles, content to be with Zahir. Whenever Zahir is in court he reminds himself of this Jonathan, but to no avail. The fear of losing the Jonathan he loves is all too real.

Oooh, I love the glimpse at the two faces of Jonathan! One is graphite (even lead, which, IIRC, can conduct electricity, is used for contrast, and all the appropriate associations) - and the other, the Court!Jon is just as hard and unyielding as diamond.
