As the king’s squire, Zahir will have power. Not power like he had as a page, tormenting The Girl and her gang of weaklings at Joren’s bequest. No, he’s past that now. If he’s Jonathan’s squire, he will be a step above everyone else. He’ll even be a step above Jonathan.
Of course he accepts the power. Jonathan will give it to him, and he’ll finally have what he needs. He’ll finally have what’s his.
And even if the terms and conditions are a little bit more than he would have expected, even if he has to give up a little more than he receives, it’s still worth it.
