Summary: Family history can be painful.
Scars decorated Zahir's legs, pale and raised bumps that stood out along his tanned skin. And Jon had never noticed before that camping trip in Zahir's second year as a squire.
He never asked, at least, not until he'd had a little too much to drink one night, going over maps and tactics with Zahir.
The only reply he'd gotten had been: “My father was a harsh man who grew up in a harsh world.”
Now, as he lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, Jon clutched Thayet closer. The world could be as harsh as it wanted- he would never, ever take it out on his children. Ever. With that thought decided, Jon rolled over and closed his eyes.
